| With Y2K fear still visible in the rear view mirror, the 2000 CES show looked to be more than just a yearly gathering of porn's best and brightest. Well, actually it didn't, but I just realized this may be my last chance to type Y2K and I had to take it. I could hype the thing as a gathering of porn at the dawn of a new century, but let's face it, the only that made this year's CES any different than the other 12 I've been to is how I got there.
Forgoing the four hour trek across some of the most dreary landscape this side of New Mexico, Mrs. Rog and I hopped a flight out of Orange County and were touching down in the city of lights long before we would have even made our traditional bathroom stop in lovely Barstow.
Arriving in town well rested certainly has its advantages. We moved our bags from the rental car into our little room at the Tam O'Shanter Motel. (The traditional haunt for the Pipe Vegas trips, but that's another story.) From the Tam, it's a five minute walk to the Sands Convention Center where we were able to pick up our badges in less than five minutes. I recommend this method of check in to anyone who can arrive a day early. Having stood in line for as long as two hours to pick up badges during the show, I can tell you, it's a refreshing change.
With all of that out of the way, we still had plenty of energy left to meet up with porn director and all around good guy, Mike South. Mike and his entourage were staying over near the Rio, so we made arrangements for dinner at the buffet. Leaving Mrs. Rog down at the slot machines, I went up to Mike's room to meet the gang.
Anyone who knows Mike would probably have known I was walking right into an ambush. Even as he was introducing me to the three other people in his room, I was unaware that another person was standing right behind me. Let me tell you, there is a moment in your mind, when you are spun around and kissed by someone well over six feet tall, when you start to wonder if South is a friend or foe.
Thankfully, the kiss came from a tall blonde starlet in waiting, Trinity, thus saving me from eternal embarassment and beating the Hell out of a handshake. After recovering from the shocking, but pleasant greeting, we all made our way across the street to the Rio. That's where the evening out ends however. Mike's plan was to hit the Rio's seafood buffet, something that neither Mrs. Rog nor yours truly are down with. I may love things with a slightly fishy taste, but if it swims, I ain't eating it, even for the chance to hang with Mike and his pals.
As in years past, the Sands gives the porn world plenty of room to spread out and put on a great show. With even more booths than in past years, CES 2000 is a testament to the growth in the porn industry. Joining the video companies were a number of new business ventures, toy companies, internet sites and other adult oriented businesses that all seem to be thriving.
As always, the first booths you see when you enter the exhibit hall belong to two of porn's heaviest hitters, Metro and VCA. Metro had a variety of women signing for them this year, including their gang bang queen, Houston. VCA had their usual collection of stars, including Ginger Lynn and Marilyn Chambers.
Since most of the contracts have run out, this was a last chance for fans to see the likes of Nikita and Vicca while still under contract for VCA.
Before I could do much more exploring, I hooked back up with South and company. Taking it upon myself, to help show Trinity around, I became a somewhat permanent fixture on her arm. This was an act of pure altruism, I assure you. I know how busy Mike gets at these shows and someone had to make sure the gorgeous blonde made her way safely around the show floor.
I know this is going to shock you, but I learned something at CES this year. It seems that when you walk around the show with a six foot tall blonde woman with a world class rack, you get a lot of attention. You know, after five years of reviewing porn movies I finally learned the secret. It's not about a body of work, but a body that is a work of art. As you might expect, Trinity attracted plenty of professional attention as well as throngs of adoring fans, dying to take a picture with the statuesque blonde.
Sin City had their booth full of blondes this year, showing off contract girls Katja Kean, Shay Sweet, Linda Thoren and Zoe. I only got the chance to say hello to Linda briefly, but she did promise, once again to re-interview with me soon and do it naked this time.
Tricia Deveraux was at the Evil Angel booth this year, looking fantastic and attracting a line of admirers. I didn't get to talk to too many people at the EA booth, but did try, again to get on their screener list. After all, the European EA does use Rog Reviews quotes to sell movies.
I stopped by the Big Top Video booth to say hello to Kim Chambers, but ended up staying longer than I expected. No, the guys at BT don't want me to review their stuff. They just wanted to make sure Trinity didn't leave Las Vegas without sharing her incredible love globes with their boob worshipping audience. She shot one scene for them that week and word is they plan to feature those hooters in a number of other movies, so be on the lookout.
Some of my oldest friends in the business are the people at Xplor Media. I stopped in to talk to them about an upcoming release, captured by a certain porn critic. No release date yet, but we did finalize the details. The five scene amateur vid should be out soon and you know you'll hear plenty more about it before then.
One of the most interesting booths at the show had to be the Extreme booth. Half porn, half XPW wrestling promo, the bad boys of porn were out in full force. With contract girls Jasmin St. Claire, Jessica Darlin and Kristi Myst holding down the porn fort and body builder Nicole Bass showing off her physique on the wrestling side, things were hopping big time. As always, Tom Byron was quite nice, promising again to do an extensive sit down interview as soon as our schedules allow.
Great Tom , but when do I get to interview Kristi and Lizzy Borden. Better yet, when is an Extreme Contract Girl going to blow me? One notable no show at the Extreme table was Ashlyn Gere. Her no show pretty much ended her unusual stint with Extreme.
No booth attacts more attention than Vivid's. The line to have the annual Vivid poster signed stretched all the way around the booth and fans waited for over an hour to be photographed with their favorite V Girl. I stayed away this year. After all, how many times do I need to be told 'you're on the list' for screeners only to get nothing the whole year, before I conclude that Vivid really doesn't give a shit what I have to say or what my readers think?
I'm still waiting on my first Vivid Girl interview. Anyone want to make odds on who will be the first? Taylor? Jenteal? Kobe? Anyone?
Serenity was doing double duty this year. She spent part of her time with Wicked and the rest promoting her new line of sex toys at the Las Vegas Novelty booth.
I actually got to hold Serenity's pussy in my hand and was quite impressed. (Of course, they took it back.) Still waiting on some products to review, but from what I've seen the big boys of sex toys had better watch their backs.
Over at Wicked, everyone was enjoying the new contract girls, Temptress, Alexa Rae and Devonn Lane. (Meridian, the fourth new Wicked girl was not on hand.) I was fortunate enough to interview Temptress, and Devonn. and I must say, I'm impressed. (Sadly, both interviews were lost when my tape recorder was snatched. More on that later.)
Devonn may be the prettiest new girl to come along in years and fans already know what Temptress, and Alexa can do. Along with Serenity, Stephanie Swift and maybe Jenna, Wicked looks to be very strong this year. (Now if I can just pin Stephanie down for an interview.)
The top girl on my personal porn list Samantha Stylle was on her own for the first time at CES. Working with Egami, Sammy is doing web projects and has a line of pro-am videos due out soon. Sammy, the movies can't come out soon enough. Also on hand was a brand new girl named Autumn who so far is a web girl only. Let me tell you guys, she is so delicious you wouldn't believe me. (And though her interview was also lost, you can see I had a GREAT view during the conversation.)
Once again this year, the RAME dinner fizzled out. I showed up on Thursday evening at the designated location. Peter showed again, but before I could even begin to wonder where everyone else was, I had to go live via cell phone. By the time I was done, it was time to escort Trinity to her first video shoot. Doing so caused me to miss the PST get together as well. No offense gang, but watching Trinity screw beats the hell out of Buffalo Wings with the group any day. Pencil me for next year though.
