Dear DocXXX,
This may sound like a put-on, but it's not. Recently, my wife and I moved to a new apartment. It happens to be under the flight path of a local airport. The problem is this: Whenever we're making love and a plane flies over our apartment, my wife freezes up. She says that the noise throws her off, and we're back to square one as far as arousal goes. Is there anything we can do about this? I don't want to have to plan my sex life around the airport's flight schedule!

Dear Turbulence,
Your wife's problem is a fairly common one. Not necessarily in regards to the airport noise, but many folks find it hard to fully concentrate on sex when there are loud or distracting noises going on nearby.
My advice is to try and provide as many sensory distractions of your own when you are making love. Light candles, burn incense, play music -- try and provide stimulation to every one of your wife's senses. The idea is that if all of her senses are fully occupied, it will make it that much harder for a distraction to one sense (i.e. hearing) to take her focus away from the others.
When you start to hear a plane coming overhead, try and fully focus yourself on pleasuring your wife. The less distracted you become, the easier it will be for her to concentrate as well.
Alternatively, you could always think about moving....Either way, good luck. These tools should at least give you a solid start towards tackling your problem!
