Dear DocXXX,
My wife and I are both quite a bit above our ideal weights. In fact, you could call us downright obese, I guess. As we've each gotten bigger, it has become harder and harder to find comfortable sexual positions. Do you have any advice for us on positions that we will be able to maintain?
-- Big and Horny
Dear Big,
Obesity can indeed be quite a problem when it comes to sex, especially if both partners are overweight. My best advice to you is to see a doctor and go on a weight loss program. Of course, this will take some time to have much effect, so I'm sure you'll still be looking for positions in the meantime.
One of the main problems that overweight men have with sex is that their penis loses some length. An obese man will tend to have a smaller penis because some of its length gets buried under the layer of fat. This, in turn, makes it especially hard for him to have sex when lying on top of the woman. The relative heights of the partners can also play a large role.
One position that I recommend to obese people is to have the man stand at the foot of the bed with the woman spreading her legs around him, resting one or both of her feet on chairs. This way the partners don't have to get on top of each other and the length of the penis is not a factor. In order for her vaginal opening to be at the right height for his penis, it might be helpful for her to place some pillows underneath her butt.
So good luck, and have fun. But remember, your best bet is still to try and lose that extra weight. Not only will your sex life be better, your life will improve in other respects as well.
