Dear DocXXX,
I'm sure this is a stupid question, but I was wondering what is the difference between a dildo and a vibrator? Aren't they just two words for the same thing?
-- Curious Carter
Dear Curious,
Actually, they are not the same thing. Not quite, anyway.
A dildo generally refers to sex toys that are cylindrically shaped, used mainly for insertion and penetration. They may or may not look like penises. Some are actually molded into more fanciful shapes, such as animals. The main thing that distinguishes them is that dildos are always long and insertible.
Vibrators, on the other hand, come in a wider variety of shapes and sizes. All of them vibrate at some level, but they can be large or small, long or wide, shaped like penises or not, etc. While some may be inserted, they are mostly used to external stimulation, most often of the clitoris. Electricity is provided by batteries of an external AC plug.
These are general definitions, please keep in mind. There are some dildos that vibrate, and some vibrators that look pretty much like dildos. I'm mainly trying to help you distinguish between them.
And haven't you ever heard that there's no such thing as a stupid question?
