I recently got in a car accident and have my entire leg in a full cast. My boyfriend and I don't want to stop having sex for the duration of my recovery, so we were wondering what was the best position to use while I'm 'laid up,' so to speak. Help!

I'm glad you asked. This is something that lots of people have to deal with at some point, but it's a question that I rarely run into. You actually have a few good options!

First, figure out what positions are most comfortable for you when you're not having sex, when you're just relaxing, standing or sitting. That's a good place to start -- Positions that are comfortable when you're not having sex will likely be the best when you are.

Here's an idea that's worked for some of my clients: Have your partner sit on a chair with plenty of room on either side, then you sit down facing him, your legs straddling him. This way you can have your weight on his body and also give the leg room to be where it needs to be. You'll also have face-to-face contact, which is always good!

You could also try standing up and resting your body weight on a dresser, sink or table. The object will support your weight, and your partner can even lift the leg without the cast for better penetration. You could also try lying down turned on the side of your cast. Your boyfriend could then lie down beside you and lift the uncasted leg for entry.

Ultimately, the real trick is to just be creative and don't get easily discouraged. It might take a little time, but you'll eventually find a position that you both like. And before you know it the cast will be off and you'll be as good as new! So just have fun and keep at it!
