Dear DocXXX,
How old does a man have to be in order to get a woman pregnant? And at what age will he stop being able to?
-- Curious Cal
Dear Curious,
A male is not able to get a woman pregnant until he hits puberty and begins to ejaculate, obviously. What many folks don't know is that even for the first year or two after puberty, boys' sperm counts are very low. It's only a couple of years after puberty that most boys actually become fertile.
On the other hand, barring health problems, most men then remain fertile for the rest of their lives. There have been several well-documented cases of men well in their 80s and 90s having children, Pablo Picasso being a famous example. This is because men never experience anything like menopause, as women do. Of course, whether a man in his 90s would want to have a child is another question altogether!
