This movie marks the return of Jenna Jameson, without question, the biggest star in porn for the last half decade or so. If the rumors are true, it could also be her final movie for the company that made her a star, Wicked Pictures. I just reviewed this title on video last month, but with such a huge release, it needs to be done again on the DVD format. Besides, there are two additional scenes that were not in the video version of the movie. Director Brad Armstrong teams with Jenna again as he did with 'Flashpoint' for another high budget, mainstream style film. Joining Jenna is a huge cast of Wicked contract girls, big name stars and lesser name hot performers. Though Armstrong is best known for his MTV looking style porn, he has tackled a project heavy with make up, costumes and dialog as we follow Jenna on a journey through a mystical land to save Fantasy.

Jenna starts out as a very uptight young woman who has to fight off the amorous advances of her dates Devin Wolf. His roving hands at the drive in prompts Jenna to demand an immediate drive home. Just about the time she is convinced that there is no romance left in the world, Jenna is visited by two fairies (Felecia and Stephanie Swift) who need her help. She must travel through the mirror into their world to save fantasy in both worlds.

On the other side of the mirror, Jenna finds herself in the lair of Arachna (Asia Carrera) a spider woman who weaves a web of seduction of the innocent blonde. With Evan Stone trapped in a web nearby, Asia begins to undress Jenna slowly, unlocking forbidden fantasies and starting her on her journey of sexual self discovery. Jenna may be innocent, but a few licks on her shaved lips and she's more than a little ready to open up to new experiences. Rather than bag on Bridgette, we'll just call this one another nicely shot scene that you might like if you want to watch Ms. Kerkove fuck again.

Continuing her quest through the forest, Jenna follows Swift and Felecia towards the castle. They stop for a little three way lesbian in the middle of the woods. As much as I really love watching Ms. Swift in scenes, the mere fact that Felecia is around makes me want to use this chance to get up and get a snack. Are there no other women who can be hired to lick pussy? There are certainly a lot of women who look and fuck a lot better. So instead of a great Swift/Jameson scene, we get a three way where one leg is totally lame. Like the last scene, if you aren't sexually allergic to the very sight of Felecia, you might enjoy the scene. Personally, I can only enjoy the parts that have Steph and Jenna working on each other.

After fucking Jenna, the two fairies hand her off to two more, Teri Starr and Inari. When the three women come across the bridge keeper, Brad Armstrong, a toll must be paid. He lets Jenna pass, but keeps the blondes for himself. Inari is one of those really pretty women who is so nasty you can't quite believe it. Teri is all that minus the great beauty. Sure she's better looking than Felecia or Bridgette, but Ms. Starr makes her money by being a super hot suck and fuck slut. She and Inari got head to head keeping Armstrong happy with a couple of talented, willing mouths. I really like Teri, but Inari really steals the spotlight in this scene, taking most of the dick action while Teri plays with herself nearby. A switch of partners and we get some anal action to finish out another well shot three way. These two fairies share a nice facial to help pay the toll.

Jenna continues her search, riding her horse and stopping to bathe in a pond. This is great tease footage and again shows the main stream qualities that make this movie so impressive. Watching Jenna swim naked may not be as hot as watching her suck cock, but I'm sure there are plenty of couples who enjoy something different now and then. The next scene takes place between a heavily made up woods creature (Anthony Crane) and a very willing cocksucker. (Jessica Drake) She does a nice job on her knees, but ends up lying flat on her belly on a tree stump to finish off this lucky dude. A little bit of slo-mo, but mostly it's just a well shot, straight forward blowjob scene ending in a nice facial popshot.

Jenna makes her way down a well and ends up running around in circles. With the plot now revolving around Jenna actually making it to the castle, we find ourselves following her into an ice cave where Alexa Rae appears for an inevitable lesbian scene. Yes, it's another veggie pairing, but Alexa seems quite intent on driving Jenna wild. Enthusiasm does count and the results are quite hot. Alexa does some really hot finger work on Jenna, then lies back for some of the same treatment. If we didn't already have our veggie quota, I would have been pretty excited by this scene, but to be honest, don't you think it's about time for Jenna to take some dick?

When Jenna finally meets the evil king, he makes her an offer. Fantasy will be returned only if Jenna stays with him to be his bride. She refuses and is tossed into a jail cell to rot. Devin shows up to rescue her. Someone explain why Jenna would insist on fucking when she should be getting the fuck out of the cell. Hello, evil king and his blood thirsty minions. At we finally get to see Jenna work some man meat. She is literally drooling for his love. (All over his chest as a matter of fact.) By this point, I'm sure you don't want me to give away the end of the movie, so we'll just wrap this puppy up. I've already gone on about the bonus material on this disc, so we'll just discuss the movie. You have to take Dream Quest for what it's supposed to be, a high budget, couples friendly porn. As such, it's perfect. The script drags at times and could use a little cutting here and there. Costumes, make up and locations are huge strengths for this movie and are as impressive as any adult film I have seen in years. There are special effects galore and production values that clearly set new standards for porn. Now, what about the sex? Jenna's much talked about comeback isn't a total loss. She's only got one boy/girl scene, and her blowjob is cut way too short. Still, it's worth waiting around for. Earlier in the movie, Johnni Black, Amber Michaels, Inari and Alexa Rae turn in sex scenes that carry enough weight to make this better than the average couples slop. Purely as a stroke flick, I still say 'Double Feature' is the best combination of quality, script and smut, but this one is a close second. Brad Armstrong set the bar high for this movie and he cleared it with room to spare. Dream Quest is a DVD that should find it's way into every collection.

Starring: "Dream Quest" is one of the most celebrated films of 2000, and director Brad Armstrong deserves credit for crafting a handsome production overloaded with all the lust sets, rubbery make-up designs and flashy special-effects of a low-budget mainstream fantasy. Remove the hardcore scenes andit would be difficult to see the difference between this and a knock-off of Ridley Scott's "Legend" or Jim Henson's "Labyrinth. " In fact, you could remove the boning without damaging the plot since Armstrong never fully weaves the sex into the story. Fairies Felecia and Stephanie Swift appear and do a nice girl-girl. But why? Randy Spears rides to out heroine's aid, then bones guards (I think they're guards) Amber Michaels and Johnni Black to divert their attention. But what this says about the characters motives is anyone's guess. And that matters since this has been crafted as a story with characters. The plot follows Jenna as she crawls through a netherworld where demonic Herschel Savage, in full Satan make-up, has kidnapped "fantasy. " Jenna is recruited to retrieve it. Along the way she encounters various copulating characters and sees a little action herself.

Everything, from the opening credits to the full-bodied, sometimes hammy, supporting performances, shows the effort Armstrong put into making this as sexual adventure miles ahead of the average pornie. He cut no corners.

so why is the sex so, well. . . standard. It's all here: oral, anal, and lots of pussy-licking. But whenever it's time to bone, the film slows. Each scene clocks in at about the same length (about seven minutes), giving the film a clunky predictability. One of the most erotic moments is nothing more than Jenna skinny-dipping.

That's not to say all the sex scenes are mediocre. Alexa and Jenna do a beautifully shot girl-girl with crystal dildos. Later, Jenna and boyfriend Devin Wolf do a fuck scene with surprising passion.

But there are just as many dead-ends, as when Bridgette Kerkove treats the evil Savage to a backdoor boning that lacks punch. If as much work had gone into the sex scenes as the set designs this might have been a classic.

A 7. It's certainly watchable, just not as satisfying as Armstrong hoped
